The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to recognize dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. This program stresses responsible dog ownership for owners and basic training and good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10 step CGC test may receive a certificate and their first official title from the AKC!
Skills taught in this class include:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Walking on a loose lead
- Walking through a crowd
- Stay in place, sit and down
- Come when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Supervised separation
Note: This class is not for dogs that are fearful, reactive or aggressive to dogs or people. Please contact us if this describes your dog.
Prerequisites: The team must complete a S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Companion or similar class. This class builds on foundation skills, so please contact us if you have not taken any formal group classes.
