Rat-A-Tat! – Intro to Rat Hunting Sports

NASDA (North American Sport Dog Association – NASDA.dog) offers a rat-finding event in both urban and field locations. Dogs search for rats contained within a quarry box.

Dogs will be introduced to the rat in box and value built for finding the rat. Search scenarios similar to those found in a competition environment will be set up for practice. As teams advance in skills, the rat hides become more challenging and may involve height and inaccessibility (as in the trunk of a car). Teams will be appropriately challenged for their level throughout the class, with the goal of building drive and enthusiasm for the find!

Prerequisites: Prefer completion of a Basic Manners class. Dogs must be comfortable waiting in a crate while other dogs work.
